Child Health Surveillance clinics

A baby is automatically registered for Child Health Surveillance from birth. The Midwife deals with new babies till 10 days old and then the Health Visitor takes over.

Pre-school children have routine check ups with the Health Visitor/GP.

  • 6 week check (HV and GP)

  • 8 month check (HV)

  • 2 year check (HV)

  • 39 month check   (HV)

  • Pre-school check (HV)

Every GP does a Child Health Surveillance Clinic every 2 weeks.  The Community Child Health Department sends out the documentation for these clinics, and the Community Officers organise the appointments.

  1. An advice notice is made up with all outstanding children on it, and the Health Visitor times the appointments.

  2. The Doctor checks this, and the C.O. sends out the appointments and issues completed clinic lists to the appropriate people.

  3. When the clinic has been completed the C.O. notes the results on the computer and returns all computer copies to Community Child Health.

  4. A new advice notice is then issued showing all outstanding children awaiting appointments.    ( Procedure goes back to 1 )

Immunisation  Admin

  • Immunisation sheets are sent from Community Child Health Dept, St. John’s with a list of children requiring immunisations.

  • These details are checked with the computer and updated if required.

  • Appointments are made in the specific immunisation clinics which are held once a week on alternate Tuesdays and Thursdays afternoon.

  • A draft copy of the immunisation clinic is sent to the Health Visitors for checking.

  • Once checked the appointment cards are sent out.

  • Final clinic sheet is printed with a backing sheet which is used for batch numbers and expiry dates of the vaccines.

  • Children are immunised at the clinic, batch numbers and expiry dates entered and sheet is signed by GP and HV.

  • Sheet returned for computer to be updated and CCH sheets to be completed.  Also follow-up appointments are made at this time.

  • CCH sheets are returned to CCH for updating.
